Guest Blogger!

I don’t know if there is a ‘proper’ way in the blogging world to host a Guest blogger, but this is how I’m doing it!

I would like to introduce you to Arianna and her fun filled article about summer fun when you have a budget that is a little less than that of a Celebrity ūüôā

A Celebrity Summer For Your Family!

As summer has arrived, so have some of the busiest days of the year!

My friends and I sometimes daydream about what it would be like to have a summer switched with one of our favorite celebrity’s. Instead of arranging schedules and driving kids everywhere, we would fly in private jets to remote beaches, drink mimosas and discuss the latest gossip in designer bikinis and sundresses. That may not happen, but discussing the celebrity life sparked our imaginations. What about creating a summer for our families modeled after celebrities and their lives? Quick brainstorming brought about some fantastic ideas. So here are 3 ways that you and your families can create some fun and glitzy summer memories!

CELEBRITY SUMMER: ALBUM RELEASE PARTIES- As artists like Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé and U2 are partying it up with their new album releases, fans are roaring in anticipation. Concerts are taking over cities across the countries and these popular musicians will be flying from country to country via a pricey private jet, to meet their adoring audience! With brand new music and exciting performances, this summer is sure to be a hot one- on the radio and off!

REALITY SUMMER: DANCE OFF! – It may not be a standing-room-only concert with screaming fans, but your family and friends can have your own fun with an amateur dance-off! Encourage everyone to prepare a song and dance to perform! You can even set everyone up into teams (be fair by evenly dividing up ages and talent) and give them time to prepare and perform a team number. Let everyone vote for the winner, and have some good music related prizes like iTunes gift cards or fun colored headphones!

CELEBRITY SUMMER: ELLE STYLE AWARDS– Most award ceremonies celebrate singing or acting talent, but this awards show is always a fantastic venue for some of the most fashionable and trendy designers, as well as their products. Setting the standard for what is hot and what is not, celebrities and models bling out with different styles and hopefully avoiding the ‚Äúwhat not to wear‚ÄĚ lists!

REALITY SUMMER: CLOTHING/ACCESSORY SWAP PARTY– What says girl time better than being surrounded by racks of clothes? Have every gal go through their closets and bring out those rarely or never worn items and accessories for a swap party! As you gather together to swap accessories, dresses, pants, shirts and purses, have some refreshments and girl talk for the perfect, money-free shopping spree!

CELEBRITY BABY BIRTHDAY PARTY: MASON’S 2ND BIRTHDAY– When Kourtney Kardashian’s little one Mason turned 2 years old, his birthday party sure was a smashing hit. Surrounded by a Thomas the Train Engine theme, the party crew took a trip to Serendipity for lunch and paid a visit to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum! Little Mason must enjoy having such a doting mother!

REALITY BABY BIRTHDAY PARTY: DIY “ARTY” PARTY– Give the little ones a great way to commemorate their early years by having a paint party! Make a “Create Station” for them complete with a protective tarp, and put out things like finger paint and play dough for the children to have fun with! Getting messy has never been more fun! Don’t forget to colorfully complete it with a confetti cake and sherbet!

Though it may not be through record deals, paparazzi coverage or the finest restaurants, there are so many ways for us mothers to create some wonderful summer memories that are original, creative, and can last a lifetime!

What I learned from my kid..

There are a few things that I have learned from Dylan in 4 1/2 years..

  • If you change their diaper, they will poop as soon as you walk away
  • If you clean up the toys, there will be twice as many toys on the floor the next time you come into the room
  • As soon as¬†they take a bath, they will want to eat spaghetti
  • As soon as they are in bed, they want a snack

My mom is probably laughing right now and¬†chanting¬†“I told you so!

Here are a few things my mom learned from me.. in 18 years..

  • If you buy something new; whether it be a car or a couch, I will puke on it (ha ha)
  • Put sunscreen on the kid! ūüėČ
  • Lipstick does not come out off couch cushions
  • When adult says “NO”,¬†wild teenager¬†hears “YES” (ha ha ha)

In the end, valuable lessons are learned, tears are shed, probably by both mom and child, and hugs are given.

Dylan has taught me some of the most important lessons in my life (He is a pretty smart 4-year-old)

  • Love is unconditional I still get hugs and kisses and cuddled after his timeout
  • Dinosaurs buried themselves in the dirt
  • Love comes in all forms “Mom, I got something for you cause I love you. It was in my nose”
  • Sometimes sleeping with a stuffed animal makes you feel better
  • Saying sorry takes a lot of effort, but has a huge effect
  • No one is going to love you more than your child does

Pretty good so far..  I am looking forwards to the many more years of lessons (or should I be worried?)

¬†I’d like to end by saying “Sorry for my teenage years, mom! I love you!” ūüôā

Children think they know.. but they have noooo idea!

Mommy, I’ll be your boyfriend

Dylan asked me why I was sad

“Cause Rob isn’t my boyfriend anymore”

A few minutes later Dylan peers around the corner

“Mommy? I’ll be your boyfriend”

My heart melted into a big sloppy puddle

Dearest little one

Dearest little one..
Why is it that you are an angel ALL day for grandma, and the moment I walk in the door you turn into a Tasmanian devil..
Why is it that you don’t have an off button? I’d even settle for a dimmer switch..
Why is it that ‘bedtime’ is such a taboo word, yet as soon as you are in your pjs and curled up in bed, you are a sweet sleepy cherub..
Why is it that we have to watch Sonic the Hedgehog every night? Please start liking my shows..
Why is it that 20 minutes after we get in bed, you decide you just now want the food you were eating 4 hours ago..
Why is it that Donald Duck wraps a towel around his waist after his shower, but doesn’t wear pants..
Why is it that my side of the bed is always better than yours, and I only get 2 square feet of my queen size bed..
Why is it that you must have ALL your stuffed animals in the bed, yet you refuse to let me have my own pillow..
Why is it that you can get away with anything by smiling so big, that doesn’t work so well for adults..

Love,
Your Mom

Does Mom really know better?

Dylan’s bedtime story last night was a very large book called ‘Dinosaurs’.¬†However he changed the name to ‘Prehistoric Times’.¬†It is¬†most likely meant ¬†for kids at a 2nd or 3rd grade reading level, even though most of the dinosaur names are SUPER hard to pronounce!

  • Adeopapposaurus
  • Bothriospondylus¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†AHH¬†SERIOUSLY?!?¬†¬†
  • Pycnonemosaurus
  • Micropachycephalosaurus

Since Dylan can’t read yet, he didn’t know that I was COMPLETELY butchering the names. I think I even made up a few of them because I was too lazy to sound them out.

So this book had a few ‘chapters’ like.. The Mesozoic Period, Carnivores, The Jurassic Period, Fossils.. ¬†Each chapter has a¬†brief 1-3¬†paragraph explanation of that¬†topic, and then pictures of examples; types of dinosaur eggs, predators,¬†which¬†animal¬†today is most like a dinosaur,¬†with little captions under each one.

Dylan took it upon himself, being the super intelligent Paleontologist that he is (and I really only know what a Paleontologist is because of Ross from FRIENDS!), to correct me when I was reading. Who cares if I butchered the names of the dinosaurs, it was WAY more important that I know the TRUTH about how fossils are made. “The dinosaur stands really still and his friends bury him in the sand or in the dirt walls, and then humans dig up his bones hundreds of years later”¬†Interesting… Or what baby dinosaurs are called. “That one is called a leopard dinosaur because when it comes out of the egg it has spots like a leopard.” Makes sense..

After a few pages of being corrected, I just asked Dylan about everything instead. He did recognize the Little Foot, Petre, Ducky, and Sara dinosaurs ūüôā

This is another example of the wild and crazy imagination of the mysterious child. I don’t mind hearing him tell me “You’re wrong mooooom.” And yes he draws out the moooooooooom for dramatic emphasis.

Conclusion: Mom knows nothing about dinosaurs ūüėČ
