Guest Blogger!

I don’t know if there is a ‘proper’ way in the blogging world to host a Guest blogger, but this is how I’m doing it!

I would like to introduce you to Arianna and her fun filled article about summer fun when you have a budget that is a little less than that of a Celebrity ūüôā

A Celebrity Summer For Your Family!

As summer has arrived, so have some of the busiest days of the year!

My friends and I sometimes daydream about what it would be like to have a summer switched with one of our favorite celebrity’s. Instead of arranging schedules and driving kids everywhere, we would fly in private jets to remote beaches, drink mimosas and discuss the latest gossip in designer bikinis and sundresses. That may not happen, but discussing the celebrity life sparked our imaginations. What about creating a summer for our families modeled after celebrities and their lives? Quick brainstorming brought about some fantastic ideas. So here are 3 ways that you and your families can create some fun and glitzy summer memories!

summerdrink

CELEBRITY SUMMER: ALBUM RELEASE PARTIES- As artists like Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé and U2 are partying it up with their new album releases, fans are roaring in anticipation. Concerts are taking over cities across the countries and these popular musicians will be flying from country to country via a pricey private jet, to meet their adoring audience! With brand new music and exciting performances, this summer is sure to be a hot one- on the radio and off!

REALITY SUMMER: DANCE OFF! – It may not be a standing-room-only concert with screaming fans, but your family and friends can have your own fun with an amateur dance-off! Encourage everyone to prepare a song and dance to perform! You can even set everyone up into teams (be fair by evenly dividing up ages and talent) and give them time to prepare and perform a team number. Let everyone vote for the winner, and have some good music related prizes like iTunes gift cards or fun colored headphones!

CELEBRITY SUMMER: ELLE STYLE AWARDS– Most award ceremonies celebrate singing or acting talent, but this awards show is always a fantastic venue for some of the most fashionable and trendy designers, as well as their products. Setting the standard for what is hot and what is not, celebrities and models bling out with different styles and hopefully avoiding the ‚Äúwhat not to wear‚ÄĚ lists!

REALITY SUMMER: CLOTHING/ACCESSORY SWAP PARTY– What says girl time better than being surrounded by racks of clothes? Have every gal go through their closets and bring out those rarely or never worn items and accessories for a swap party! As you gather together to swap accessories, dresses, pants, shirts and purses, have some refreshments and girl talk for the perfect, money-free shopping spree!

CELEBRITY BABY BIRTHDAY PARTY: MASON’S 2ND BIRTHDAY– When Kourtney Kardashian’s little one Mason turned 2 years old, his birthday party sure was a smashing hit. Surrounded by a Thomas the Train Engine theme, the party crew took a trip to Serendipity for lunch and paid a visit to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum! Little Mason must enjoy having such a doting mother!

REALITY BABY BIRTHDAY PARTY: DIY “ARTY” PARTY– Give the little ones a great way to commemorate their early years by having a paint party! Make a “Create Station” for them complete with a protective tarp, and put out things like finger paint and play dough for the children to have fun with! Getting messy has never been more fun! Don’t forget to colorfully complete it with a confetti cake and sherbet!

Though it may not be through record deals, paparazzi coverage or the finest restaurants, there are so many ways for us mothers to create some wonderful summer memories that are original, creative, and can last a lifetime!

Cable and peanut butter

Its Tuesday night (I think). My husband is on duty at the Coast Guard base. Dylan is in bed. I decided to enjoy my night alone (kinda) by watching a movie and having dessert that I don’t have to share in bed (mwahahah!)

What actually happened is I got distracted by flipping through all our new channels. (We got Cable baby!) I saw that ‘Grown Ups’ was going to be on at 8pm. So I sat on the couch and watched whatever was on that channel till 8pm, so I wouldn’t forget about the movie.

I then wanted my dessert, but found some pretty dessert-bare cupboards. What we did have was animals crackers and peanut butter. Works for me!

So now during commercials, I am browsing channels and munching on my animal crackers, feeling very much like an adult.. And¬†I have never know of kittens to beg as much¬†as ours do! They are looking at¬†me as if they have never¬†had food. Ever. But they are soo cute! So I kinda want to give them peanut butter… but I won’t.

So now that the movie is over, I want to be friends with Adam Sandler and Kevin James, I want to get chocolate wasted everyday, and I wouldn’t mind having the body of Salma¬†Hayak.

So I think tomorrow is Wednesday.. my days are so blurred.. its been a lot of pool, beach, beach, pool. Its tough not having¬†a job! As much as I would LOVE to become a professional beach bum (I would be DARN good at it!), Ive heard that it doesn’t pay that well. So I’m on the job hunt. I need a job. I need friends. I have friends, I need friends in Alameda. I need connections in Alameda. Who lives in Alameda and wants to be my friend?

T minus 3 days!

After today, I have 2 days left at work. We leave for California in¬†3 days. Juuuuuuust breeeeeath. It hasn’t completely hit me yet, but I know as soon as we cross that Oregon/California line, it will hit me like a ton of bricks. WE ARE MOVING TO CALIFORNIA!

On the job front:¬†I will be taking a break from working for a while and get everything settled first. Ill be figuring out Dylan’s Kindergarten, new doctors, where the grocery store is..¬†

On the place to live situation: We have a condo waiting for us! Yay for not being homeless!

Funny Reality

Thought I’d share some wife humor ūüôā

Speaking of humor.. all relationships need it. I know mine does. Thankfully, my husband and I share a very similar sense of humor. We enjoy the same comedians, we both think that animals doing funny things, sports bloopers, and kids hitting their dad in the groin with baseball bats are hilarious (IT IS!!).

We could each come home in the worst mood, we had our own issues to deal with at work, we don’t want to talk about it over dinner, in fact, we don’t wanna talk to each other at all. The dishes get done in silence. We go to bed. One of us will start watching youtube videos. The other scootches over to see. We are still silent. Next thing you know, a cat dressed in a shark costume is sitting on a roomba with a baby duck. (If that doesn’t make you laugh…) Humor has saved the evening! We don’t rely on humor to keep our relationship strong or to fix anything. But it is for sure a help!

Being married now for 66 days (longest I’ve ever been married!¬†ūüėČ woohoo! ), I am far from a¬†professional when it comes to relationships and marriage. I’m a pre-rookie. I just made that up..¬† If I thought that I knew what arguments were, or what it means to compromise.. I was wrong. Married compromises and arguments, or as we call them, discussions,¬†are soo different! You can’t just say “You’re wrong, I don’t want to be your wife anymore.” Being married is tough work! Not that I’m complaining, I absofrickenlutely love it! But It doesn’t get easier once you’re married! I wouldn’t say I’m learning that the hard way, I’m just learning it.

And on top of having to share a home with 2 smelly boys (one is 5 and the other is 27) I am non-stop researching Alameda, California for our upcoming move!! We leave in 23 days!! I’m looking for a place to live, a job, and activities for Dylan and I to get involved with so he can meet some kids before he starts kindergarten! I am doing all of this while working at my current job. Vacation anyone? Yes Please!

So once again, If you want to help me out with a job or rental home, I will be your best friend! ūüôā

Wanted!

Who wants to find me a place to live and a job in Alameda California??

My husband was given an amazing opportunity to transfer to Coast Guard Island;

Coast Guard Island is in the Oakland Estuary between Oakland and Alameda, California. The 67-acre (27 ha) island is situated in the historic Brooklyn Basin, now known as Embarcadero Cove. It is within the Alameda city limits, but is tied to the main land only via a bridge from Dennison Street in Oakland.            (thank you Wikipedia)

 So we will be moving to Alameda;

Alameda is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. It is located on Alameda Island and Bay Farm Island, and is adjacent to and west of Oakland and in eastern San Francisco Bay across from San Francisco and South San Francisco, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Bet you didn’t know you would be getting a geography lesson too..

San Francisco! Yay!¬†California! Yay!¬† … I have never lived outside of Washington.. I haven’t moved enough times to fill up one hand of fingers.. And now¬†we are¬†leaving the state! I can bring my parents with me, right? And I can still work for the same company..? Yeah, NO.

NEW NEW NEW! We are very excited to have this opportunity for a new adventure! Seeing as we are still newlyweds,¬†(we’ve only been married 2 months!) starting¬†such a new and exciting journey at this time¬†seems to fit right in. New husband, New apartment, New last name, New in-laws, New family…. New state, New home, New job, New opportunities!

Luckily, we will be put up in a hotel for a bit until we find a place to rent. We head down to Cali in 3 weeks, and have started looking for places now, in hopes that we can get something lined up and don’t have to live in a hotel for too long. We will be staying with my husband’s family for a week in Northern Cali (vacation!), and then heading into Alameda to start reality. And oh yeah, I need a job!

I have been with my company for 4 years now. A large pediatrics group with 7 clinics and 80-ish doctors. I have been the Lead in the Scheduling Center for all 7 clinics for the past 3 years. I have excellent customer service skills, I love working with people or by myself, I CAN be organized (my husband will tell you otherwise),computer and phone skills are superb, I am very familiar with medical terminology, ethical and legal concepts, insurance, referrals, scheduling, time management, concepts of triage, and runnning and maintaing a happy and friendly office environment. Do you want to hire me??

As much as I would love to be a stay at home military wife, or even working part time and getting the baby maker ready for action, Dylan will be in Kindergarten in the Fall, and I need to keep busy! I also have to keep reminding myself about our car payment and bills.. ohh yeeaaahh that’s why you need money..

BEING AN ADULT IS HARD!

  • 16 more days of work!¬†¬†¬†¬†
  • 25 days till we leave for Cali!
  • 31 days til my last paycheck¬†from Pediatric Associates!

What’s Love?

Whats Love got to do with it, Got to do with it?… ¬†What is Love? Baby don’t hurt me, Don’t hurt me no more… As long as you Love me.¬†

Thank you Tina Turner, Night at the Roxbury and Justin Beiber.. (did I really just THANK the Beibs?!)

Lately I have been thinking a lot about Love. Not because tomorrow is Valentines Day, but it just seems to have been popping up lately.

I LOVE my best friend. I LOVE my morning coffee. I LOVE my car. I LOVE my child.¬†Even though I feel LOVE for all of these, It isn’t all the same Love. Love isn’t simple. Love is expressed in so many ways.

I have been listening to a book on tape (great for my morning and evening commutes!) by Bob Goff. It is titled ¬†Love Does. The story that I heard this morning was about a young man named Ryan who was head over heels in Love with his girlfriend. He was so crazy in Love that he asked a complete stranger if he could use his backyard as the backdrop for his wedding proposal. The stranger recognized this Crazy Love and agreed. Ryan then asked if he and his girlfriend could use their deck for dinner before he proposed. The stranger agreed. In the end, the stranger had let Ryan use his deck for dinner and dancing and took the young couple out on his boat for an evening sail. The Love that Ryan had and the excitement that took over him had taken this stranger by storm. The story ends with Ryan’s proposal on the stranger’s boat on a beautiful starry night..¬†topped off¬†with water cannons, that the stranger had set up to add to the magic and excitement of the evening.¬†The stranger was Bob Goff. In this story he explains how Ryan’s, almost idiotic, Crazy Love was contagious, and he was so happy to say ‘Yes’ to Ryan’s requests. Yes, I teared up a bit in the car, I am a SUCKER for stories like this!¬†Oh, By the way, Ryan’s girlfriend said ‘Yes’ ūüôā

Bob says ‘Love is never stationary’. It isn’t something that just sits there, waiting. It’s an active, mental, emotional, physical thing. You have to do something with it, for it. Saying ‘I love you’ or that you Love something is almost an empty act. Doing something for Love is what proves your point. Doing something every time isn’t always necessary. (I know I don’t need a dozen roses every time I hear¬†“I Love you”)

Love is so strong. It is so powerful. I don’t fully know it. I’m sure lots of people don’t understand it.

As a mother, I have learned to Love deeply. The Love I have for my child is a greater Love than I could ever imagine. As I tuck him in and kiss him goodnight, I tell him “I love you”. And the response I get is “Love you¬†too, mom!” Just hearing that melts my heart. I can’t even explain to him how my heart hurts from all the Love I have for him.¬†¬†

I enjoying Loving. I enjoy being Loved. I look forwards to learning how to Love more.

In conclusion, I would LOVE to have another cup of coffee ūüôā

“In the end, love doesn‚Äôt just keep thinking about it or keep planning for it. Simply put: love does” -Bob Goff

Donuts, roses, and a pinata

Happy February!

Yesterday at work was a CHALLENGE! Our computers were down and we had to schedule all our appointments on paper.. I work in the scheduling center for a large pediatrics group. We have 7 clinics.. we had to schedule for ALL 7 clinics on paper!!¬†¬† ¬†“oh that doesn’t sound so bad.”¬† *evil death¬†glare activated*

This morning¬†I brought my staff donuts to say thank you for all their hard work yesterday. I have been staring at the donuts, smelling their sweet goodness, craving the sprinkles.. But being good and eating my banana instead. Since I started Paleo 3 weeks ago, I am down 10 lbs! I can’t give up now! But oh man.. I want a donut.

Back tracking to last weekend: Baby Daddy Drama. Enough said. My weekend with my boyfriend was cut short and I was extremely upset. Boyfriend to the rescue! He came over the next morning with a dozen red roses ūüôā I immediately was in a better mood. I would have accepted a donut at that point as well.

Tomorrow is Dylan’s birthday party!! We are having a Lego Pizza party!¬† To save some bucks, I made the pinata! (see photo below) The kids will also get to make their own mini pizzas using Pillsbury Grands Biscuits, shredded ¬†mozzarella and cheddar cheese, mini pepperoni and pizza sauce. Each kid will get to press and shape¬†their ‘dough’¬† flat, then spread their sauce and add desired cheese and pepperoni. Popped into the oven for a bit and TA DA! Mini pizza! They will also then frost and decorate their own cupcakes. It’s a very hands on party ūüôā So as¬†I am helping Dylan with his pizza, I will be eating my carrot sticks. Wishing I had a donut.

TGIF and Happy SuperBowl weekend!!
